Although living and working abroad for years, the new LA Kings captain, Anže Kopitar, and one of the most successful Slovenian businessmen, Joc Pečečnik, return to their motherland time and again in order to bring together people to help other people.
For this purpose they are organising the sixth overall or the fourth joint charity tournament at the traditional location of Golf Course Bled, taking place on the last Saturday in August, 27. 08. 2016. Their endeavour will be, as always, supported by Anže’s team AK11, together with numerous celebrities from the world of sport and many friends and businessmen that Joc Pečečnik and the Interblock Group have invited from their network of acquaintances.
The organisation and title sponsorship was again assumed by the Interblock Group and Joc Pečečnik. The event was also sponsored by other successful Slovenian companies, many being members of the Slovenian Business Club: Akrapovič, Avto Aktiv, Avtohiša Vrtač, Blažič-robni trakovi, Decor & Design, DEWESoft, Draguljarna Malalan, Elvez, Golf igrišče Bled, IcePeak, Kirurgija Bitenc, Mit, POS Elektronček, Povše Metal, Riko, Siliko, Skaza, Stare Transport, Volo (Star Travel), Cvetličarna Khaya, VAL 202, and notable Slovenians, for example Peter Prevc, Tim Gajser, television host and stand-up comedian Vid Valič, singer Alya, magician Magic Aleksander and many others.
Under the auspices of the Red Ball Foundation, they and the funds they raised will help the Celje Regional Association of Foster Parents to organise holidays in Izola for children, the Maribor Centre for Social Work, also to help foster children, and a local sports and cultural society from Hrušica to build a multi-purpose sports playground for budding young sportsmen and other individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Anže Kopitar first won the Stanley Cup in 2012, then a second time in 2014, but the third opportunity in 2016, despite many positive predictions, slipped through his fingers. The LA Kings entered the playoff of the previous NHL season with high ambitions, which were quickly killed by later finalists, the San Jose Sharks. Nevertheless, Anže’s tenth anniversary season in the NHL league will keep a positive tone. When the season ended he was awarded some honours for the first time and not just any. He received what is most likely the most prestigious award, the so-called Selke Trophy, which goes to the hands of the best defensive forward in the league. The NHL league also paid Anže the honour of the Lady Bing award, given to the most gentlemanly player in the league, pointing out the one who is a true role model off the rink as well as on it. And we mustn’t forget – Anže is entering his eleventh NHL season as Los Angeles Kings captain.
