Igor Akrapovič has been in love with motorcycles since childhood when he and his friends customized and modified them. At the beginning of the 1990s, he used his own experience to start a company in Ivančna Gorica, Slovenia to produce exhaust systems used in motorcycle racing. One could argue that Akrapovič turned his hobby into business thanks to his entrepreneurial spirit. Before long, the company won recognition all over the world thanks to his many innovative ideas, like using new materials such as titanium and carbon fibers, and investments in technology and development. The boldness of the company in designing the exhaust systems also greatly contributed to the reputation and growth of the Akrapovič brand and they continue to set new standards with their products which have won prestigious awards, such as the Red Dot Award: Best of the Best for the Evolution exhaust system designed for the Ducati 1199 Panigale. The Akrapovič brand is constantly placed among the recipients of the “Best brand” awards by readers of world famous magazines.
Igor Akrapovič was recognized as the Slovenian Entrepreneur of the Year in 2004, and also won the Person of the Year award a year later. The company Akrapovič exhibits its drive towards constant improvement by conquering new segments. They entered the car exhaust system segment in 2008, expanded their product range to custom motorcycles (Harley-Davidson) and scooters in 2011, and have their own foundry for precision titanium casting since 2009. Over the years, the number of employees has grown to around 800 and the company sells its products in more than 60 countries all over the world.
In addition to their popularity among the end customers, the Akrapovič exhausts systems are extremely sought after by the automobile and motorcycle brands which see Akrapovič as an exceptional partner and an important value driver. Today, the company works with various brands in the road vehicle and racing segments. Some of its partners are ALPINA, Aston Martin Racing, Audi Sport, BMW Motorrad, BMW Motorsport, Ducati Corse, KTM and Yamaha Motor Europe. Since 2000, more than 90 drivers and riders have won various car and motorcycle racing world championships using Akrapovič exhaust systems: WSBK, MotoGP, motocross and enduro racing world championships, as well as FIA World Endurance Championships, where Audi Sport won the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans many times.
