Dvor Jezeršek among finalists for The Slovenia Restaurants Awards
International recognition of Slovenia, providing high quality products and services, increase visits to restaurants and healthy development “foodie” culture of Slovenians, is the essence of the project and not just a competition.
Domestic and foreign tourists are keen on the sunny side of the Alps, to experience and feel the beauty of our country. To see, smell and taste Slovenia. Diverse and innovative cuisine, quality ingredients, fine wines and friendly service are the virtues of Slovenian restaurants.
The Slovenia Team, which stands for many years of experience in the field of international tourism literature, also famous tourist city guide In Your Pocket, has decided to prepare the best selection of restaurants in Slovenia, which is multi-faceted – professional, independent and dedicated to a wider audience, both domestic and foreign tourists.
The project, Slovenia Restaurant Awards, was divided into three stages – a selection of best restaurants was prepared by the Expert Committee (first stage) then handed over to be voted on by the Academy of Chefs & Foodies, consisting of chefs, culinary experts, critics, sommeliers, restaurant owners, winemakers, connoisseurs and business representatives (second stage – a closed vote commencing). Finally, voting opened to the broader Slovenian public (third stage).
Members of the Expert Committee include: Msc. Helena Cvikl (director, Vocational College for Catering and Tourism Maribor), Mira Šemič (wine connoisseur, gourmand and gastronomic traveller), PhD. Janez Bogataj (Emeritus Professor of Ethnological Sciences), Assoc. Prof. PhD. Aleš Gačnik (Head of the Department for cultural tourism and cultural heritage at Turistica and head of the Centre for gastronomy and wine culture at the University of Primorska) and Yuri Barron (editor, Slovenian editions of the In Your Pocket tourist guides, editor and main author of The Slovenia Book -Top 100 Destinations). They had just one principle in assessing restaurants; this was not how much it cost, the size of the restaurant or the accessibility of the location, but their overall satisfaction with the dining experience.
The selection was made together with an expert committee and foodies and you! We invite you to cast your vote and give your opinion as the general public
All the winning restaurants, so too the finalists, will be published as well as on The Slovenia tourist maps and in a book showcasing the best restaurants, which will be released at the end of spring and will present visitors with a wide range of epicurean delights for every occasion and budget.
The expert committee has the professional qualifications and personal experience prepare a comprehensive list of restaurants, which offer high quality food and service and thus a superior culinary experience. Slovenia is divided into five regions; north, south, east, west, and Ljubljana and Central Slovenia. Each member has proposed 15 restaurants in each region, with 25 for Ljubljana and Central Slovenia.
A shortlist of the 5 (10 for Ljubljana) best restaurants in each region, of which 1 winning restaurant has been announced for each region, thus there will be 5 winners. At the same time the expert committee will also award “The Expert Committee Award”; only one restaurant can claim this title in all of Slovenia.The award ceremony and announcement of regional winners and the Expert Committee’s winner will take place Tuesday, 21.03.2017.
