Coffee with the Entrepreneur Boštjan Šifrar
Together with our young members we headed out from Ljubljana to Škofja Loka on Thursday, December 17 2015, where we were welcomed by the CEO and owner of the family company SIBO G., Boštjan Šifrar. This entrepreneur who was practically born into his profession, has made good use of the opportunities presented to him and has created one of the leading companies in the field of plastic closures for packaging.
The foundations of the business go back to 1967 when, as a craftsman, Franc Šifrar started to deal with the processing of thermoplastic masses, and in 1976 the business of toolmaking was added. In 1993 the management of the company was taken over by his son Boštjan. At that time, 10 employees made their plastic products on 5 machines. The following year the company moved to a new facility with an area of 1,200 m2 and remained there for 10 years. In 2004, they again moved into a new facility, the area of which measured 4,200 m2, and to this were added further premises of 12,500 m2 in 2013.
With 260 employees and about one hundred production lines, the company has a 30 per cent share of the European market for toothpaste caps and a 15 per cent share of the market globally. Its products are exported to 57 countries around the world and the company has around 200 buyers from the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, medical, and technical fields, among which are Glaxo Smith Klein, Procter & Gamble, Sandoz, and Henkel. The company makes ten million caps per day, which amounts to 3.5 billion per year.
After our chat over coffee and a detailed presentation of the company, we were introduced to the toolmaking and production processes which include solutions in the field of plastic closures packaging for tubes, containers and other types of packaging as well as solutions for technically demanding products made of plastic for the pharmaceutical, medical, and electro industries.
The CEO and owner of the company Boštjan Šifrar shared his business experience with our young members in a relaxed atmosphere through the presentation of his own success story. Once again, the main subjects of the talk were entrepreneurship and the current problems and challenges this company from Škofja Loka is facing.
